Your cover letter should offer something special which your resume cannot accommodate. Since resumes cannot be detailed and descriptive, important points can be described in your cover letter.

While writing cover letters candidates describe about their job experience and how they could prove an asset to the firm, they are applying for. Strong points about their skills, talent and the way they perceive their jobs can be explicitly described in a cover letter. Candidates sound knowledge and interest in a particular area, which is very essential for recruiters to know before taking the big decision of hiring the candidate, can be made simple through cover letters.

Cover letters prove very effective from the employers point to view. It is a medium through which the candidate can talk directly with the employer to initiate the conversation. It adds life to your resume and thereby should be thoughtfully written. Candidates should also make a point to write different cover letters for every job they are applying for. Mr. Billy A. Chapman,
United States District Court for the Western District of New York,
841 Grove Street,
Massapequa, NY 11758.

Dear Judge Chapman,

I would graduate from the University Of Tulsa College Of Law, in December 2005, and would like to be considered for a clerkship position that opens April 1, 2006.

I serve as one of three Articles Editors on the Tulsa Law Review. Through my work on the Review, I have developed my ability to analyze legal issues and present the results of my analysis clearly. My enclosed document that discusses the status of the at-will employment doctrine in Oklahoma in light of the implied contract exception was published last year. Moreover, the Journal provided an invaluable opportunity to advance my interest particularly in legal scholarship because of the exposure it has given me to a wide variety of novel issues. One such issue with which I have recently become familiar is the controversy over the constitutionality of legislation establishing a uniform statute of limitations for private actions implied under section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.

Academically, I rank in the top 15% of my class. Apart from this, I participate in numerous extracurricular activities both inside and outside the law school, including membership as a student-pupil in the Robert D. Hudson Chapter of the American Inns of Court. I have also worked as a research assistant in the preparation of a law review article written by Martin Frey, one of my professors.

As an undergraduate, I attended the Duke University. I majored in Public Policy Studies, a combination of political science, history, economics, and several other disciplines. Most of the courses offered in the major involved a heavy writing component and gave me experience in examining and solving problems.

Please feel free to contact me for an interview. I may be contacted either on (918) 584-0000, (home) or at the Review, (918) 631-3531. Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully,
Elijah J. Graddy

Before writing cover letters candidates should make sure that they do proper research and study about the company as well as the job profile they are applying for. Employers usually hire the person who knows a few details about their company and the responsibilities he/she would take once on board. Apart from this it becomes easier for the candidate to jot down his qualifications, experience as skills as per the requirement of the company for which he/she is been hired.
