People use cover letters for various purposes on different occasions like; for job acknowledgement, job acceptance, salary negotiation, drafting resignation, thanking the employer, or for writing a reference letter for suggestion and many more.
A 'reference letter for suggestion' is generally written by a person to a person who belongs to the same field as that of the writer and who will be the senior of the writer or alumni. In such a type of letter the writer asks for the reference of the reader. The writer demands the reader to help him/her in finding a suitable job matching his/her profile. The writer can also mention his/her preferences regarding the job that he/she wants.
Given below are two samples of cover letters. You can take the help of the sample to draft your own reference for suggestion cover letter. Do make necessary changes in the data of the letter to suit your requirement.

Mr. Michael G. Pickett,
National Accounts Inc.,
257, Park Avenue South,
New York, NY 12345-6789.
Dear Mr. Michael,
With immense pleasure, I am writing this letter to tell you that this year at International School of Law has been exiting and fulfilling for me, with experiences enlightening and enlivening. I hope they have been the same for you at your job at National Accounts Inc. The enclosed resume will give you a summary of my activities and achievements in this year, in a nutshell.
In July 2003, I did my internship with Regional Accounts Inc., which polished my practical law gathering.
The internship period and experience made me think that I should give a start to my career with either a small or a medium sized consultancy firm or bank. My job target is to attain a post in the field of insurance coverage, either in banking or in the investment sector. Ideally, it would be with a company that is 2-4 years old and has 10-20- clients. I am ready to travel and hence geographic location would not be a major problem for me. I am also looking forward for a firm where I will be able to put into practical use my professional skills adequately
Should you become aware of any of your business associates, friends, etc., who might be interested in my abilities, I would appreciate your sending them a copy of my resume or letting me have their names so I can contact them personally.
Michael, I would greatly appreciate your assistance and advice. I am looking forward to hear from you.
Best Regards,
Joshua.J.Lopez.

Mr. Alfonso.A.Howard,
National Accounts Inc.,
257, Park Avenue South,
New York, NY 12345-6789.
Dear Howard,
It has been a long time since I wrote to you. Today it gives me utmost joy in telling you that I have completed three years in Regional Accounts Inc. The three years that I spent here have given me the experience and knowledge of thirty years. I accepted and enjoyed every challenges and responsibilities that came my way. I am attaching my resume along with this letter to give you an idea of my activities and achievements in the past three years.
Dynamic by nature as I am, I am willing to join a new firm where I will encounter new set of challenges and responsibilities. I would require your help for this. You have a good deal of friends and acquaintances who belong to the legal field, (you yourself being an important and reputed personality in this field). I would really be glad if you could refer me to any reputed organization or firm for a post that will be suitable for my profile. You can pass on my resume if you get to know about any vacancy or let me know the details so that I can contact them personally.
My area of interest would be insurance coverage and I would prefer a firm that has been in this field for a good length of time and deals with multiple clients.
Thank you so much for your time and I will look forward to hear from you soon.
Best regards
Richard.M.Cooper.
