Mr. Jesus R. Hallman,
Citigroup Corporate & Investment Bank
MBA Recruiting,
3635 Kooter Lane,
New York, NY 12345-6789.
Dear Mr. Hallman,
I am a first-year MBA student at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business and would like to be considered for an interview for an investment banking summer associate position. While Citigroup has long attracted me for its reputation for excellence, global presence and commitment to the emerging markets, my recent conversations with Babson alumni confirmed that the culture and content of work at Citigroup are an ideal fit for my passions and skills.
Before coming to Babson, I spent four years at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of China participating in international trade talks. Representing the country on 30+ international occasions, I learned to work constructively with domestic ministries to define the national positions, and to engage strategically with foreign counterparts to develop mutually beneficial results. Through participating in industrial talks covering chemical and energy sectors, I developed the ability to critically analyze the industrial reality in China as well as other countries, and build on such knowledge to formulate effective negotiation strategies and tactics. The privilege of networking with the Asia Pacific business community through a series of investment conferences helped me to understand the dynamic nature of the world investment activities, and confirmed my long-term interest in pursuing a career in investment banking.
I believe my strong global economic background combined with the business and finance skills from my education at Babson would be valuable to Citigroup. I look forward to meeting with you or your colleagues to discuss my background and my interest in Citigroup in more detail.
Sincerely,
James E. Larkin.

Mr. Zachary B. Pierson,
Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown
4645 Jadewood Drive,
Chicago, IL 60601.
Dear Mr. Pierson,
I am a first-year MBA student at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College and would like to be considered for your summer associate position in investment banking. I am interested to work with Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, because of its reputation for excellence, global presence and particular strength in health care sector banking.
Following the completion of my Ph.D. degree in Molecular Pharmacology from Stanford and prior to business school, I worked in business development at a privately held biotechnology company, Dynavax Technologies. I had a unique opportunity to work directly with the CEO on corporate partnering and capital raising efforts. Some of my projects included revising the Company’s business plan, developing a model for estimating sales of our lead drug candidate and designing investor presentations. I also played a lead role on behalf of the Company in drafting the business section of our S-1 document with our investment bankers and lawyers. The positive experience I had, working with our drafting team, confirmed my long interest in pursuing a career in investment banking.
I believe my strong technical background in drug research/biotechnology combined with the business and finance skills from my work experience and education at Babson would be valuable to Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown. I look forward to the opportunity to meet with representatives of Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown to discuss my credentials.
Sincerely,
Jesus R. Hallman.

Mr. Alvin V. Binder,
Recruiting Coordinator
Corporate Finance
Lehman Brothers
2468 Oakway Lane,
Los Angeles, CA 90017.
Dear Mr. Binder,
I am a first-year MBA student at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. I am writing because I am very interested in Lehman Brother’s investment banking summer associate program and hope that you will consider me for an interview.
This summer, I had the opportunity to meet John Doe from Lehman’s investment banking division. Three weeks ago, I met with Raoul once again in San Antonio during the National Society of Hispanic MBAs conference. On that occasion I also spoke extensively with Jane Doe, from the San Francisco office, who proved to be an invaluable resource regarding Lehman’s diversity recruiting initiatives. My conversations with these professionals and with some of the Babson alumni at Lehman reaffirmed my interest in Lehman Brothers as I learned about the firms culture and the growth opportunities available to junior bankers.
I am confident that you will find, in my U.S. Marine Corps background and in my Wall Street experience, a unique combination of skills that differentiate me from the pool of prospective summer associates. While in the Marines, I cultivated strong teamwork and leadership skills. I also learned to perform effectively under pressure and developed an ability to make decisions in the absence of perfect information. At J.P. Morgan and TCW, I acquired the key business valuation and deal-structuring skills necessary to execute complex cross border transactions. I believe that these abilities would prove to be valuable to Lehman’s investment banking division.
I would once again like to emphasize that I am excited about the opportunity to work for Lehman Brothers next summer and hope you will consider me for an interview. I look forward to meeting you and other representatives from your recruiting team. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Robert D. Laboy.
