Sample Military Transition Cover Letter

A military transition cover letter is meant for sending along with the resume when applying for a military transition, owing to change of profile or in residence. A cover letter is an extremely important document, whose importance should not be underestimated. Some of the very core qualities of a military person include discipline, finesse, and etiquettes, thus, when applying for a job, nothing less would be expected of you.

It is part of the official etiquette and norms to enclose your resume with a cover letter. Even if you are applying by e-mail, sending a resume sans cover letter or using a one-line cover letter is a serious error on your part, which might cost you your job. One-line or very short paragraph which people try to pass off as a cover letter are few of the things that bug recruiters to no end.

In military, the official letters are supposed to be short, precise and to the point, so don't write a lengthy letter as well.

There are certain rules you need to keep in mind when writing a cover letter:

  • Mention in the first paragraph which post you are applying for and how you came to know about it
  • Make your cover letter personalized. Write, "Please consider this letter and the attached resume as my application/ expression of interest for the post of."
  • Do not address "to whomsoever it may concern."
  • Write it keeping the job's needs in mind, not yours
  • When you have to draw your employer's attention to your most important and relevant skill/experience regarding the post you are applying for, use the words, "I would like to point out."
  • Mention that your profile matches the required one
  • Ask for an action on the part of the employers, like "I would welcome an opportunity to meet with you in person to discuss my potential contributions for achieving your company's organizational goals."
  • When sending the letter along with your resume, make it short and precise; you do not want to waste your employer's time
  • If you are sending a hard copy, make sure you are printing on a good quality paper.
