Cover Letters for Programmers
A programmer resume cover letter is a document, attached with your resume, when you are applying for the job of a programmer.
The computer and IT field is one of the fastest growing fields. The competition in this arena is cutthroat. Therefore, it is necessary for you to take every step required to gain an upper hand over others.
A cover letter is not something extremely necessary but it adds up to your resume, giving you an edge over others. A badly written cover letter is better than no cover letter at all. If you write an impressive cover letter, it will stand you in good stead.
It should be short and simple but effective enough to create a good lasting impression on your employer. Your cover letter could be sent as an email with your resume or as a hard copy, whichever is suitable.
A cover letter should include:
- A greeting.
- Your introduction and mention of the post you are applying for.
- The second paragraph should include a short description of your skills, qualifications and experiences.
- The conclusion should include a word about how interested you are in the alliance. It should always ask for an action on part of the employers.
- You can include the notice period and suggest the company to keep your resume on file if they deem you unfit for the current vacancy.
- Thank them for their time and consideration.
- Always mention about your attached resume.

Dear Mr. Simpson,
I am writing to introduce myself to you as a student of International School of Technology. I am responding to your advertisement in the local employment news for want of a software programmer for your development section.
As you can see in the enclosed resume, I have a very strong academic background in operating systems combined with two years of research experience in search engine optimization. My recent internship at Major Info systems, New York, allowed me to further develop and strengthen my technical programming skills. I have good hands-on programming experience with languages like C, C++, Java, .Net, PHP and Assembly. I believe that if given the opportunity, I can make a significant and valuable contribution to your firm.
I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how my education and experience will be helpful to you. I will be calling you tomorrow morning to talk about the possibility of arranging an interview. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Wayne Martin,
