Mr. John Smith,
Principal
National School,
257, Park Avenue South,
New York, NY 12345-6789.
Dear Mr. Smith,
This is in response to your advertisement in the New York Times dated May12, 2011 about the vacancies for the position of a Science Editor. I believe my broad-based scientific knowledge and writing skills make me a deserving candidate for this position.
I have done a B.S. in botany & zoology with honors, and have studied at medical school for two years. Through these studies, I have gained in-depth knowledge of many scientific subjects which include biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology and genetics. As an advanced placement English student, a participant in university interscholastic league writing contests and the daughter of an English teacher, I have acquired proficiency in linguistic as well as verbal and written communication skills. Currently, I am enrolled in a technical communications course to augment my writing skills further.
Concerning my related experience, I have been employed as a Science Consultant and Technical Writer for Regional Schools. In that position, I was the sole writer on scientific subjects (life and earth sciences) for a project involving development of software for Children’s Encyclopedia on CD-ROM. My teaching experience includes tutoring medical and nursing students in human anatomy, physiology and histology. Positions working in the medical field have allowed me to develop superior interpersonal skills.
I plan to use my employment in the medical field and my technical writing experience to find full-time employment as a writer on technical subjects and more fully utilize my scientific knowledge. I will also continue evening coursework in technical communications and desktop publishing.
Enclosed herewith is a resume that provides more details about my background. I am excited by the prospects reflected in your advertisement and I believe I would be a creative and energetic asset to the National School. You can contact me on (123)-456 7890.
Yours sincerely,
Richard Anderson.

Mr. Adam Bell,
Principal
National School,
257, University Street,
New York, NY 12345-6789.
Dear Mr. Bell,
This is with reference to your advertisement published in the daily New York Times dated May 12, 2011 and I hereby wish to apply for the post of a teacher at the famous National School, New York. Enclosed herewith is my updated resume which would give you a fair idea of my educational background, my skills and abilities. In May, I will complete my B.A. in English Literature from Manhattan and will hold New York State Certification in Special and Elementary Education. I had the opportunity to complete student teaching in your district. I truly appreciate the professionalism and caring attitude of the teachers and staff of the National School.
During student teaching and my field experience, I worked with students at the elementary, middle and high school levels. This included providing individual, small group and whole class instruction to students with learning disabilities, emotional disturbances and multiple disabilities. I value individuality and strive to meet the needs of each student. To accomplish this, I use a variety of hands-on activities and different teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles. I also recognize the importance of trust and successfully established relationships with students that resulted in a safe and comfortable, yet challenging, learning environment.
In addition to this, for the last four years I have worked with youth, ages 6-16, in a local summer recreation program. I gained valuable group management skills and developed positive relationships with the youth in this program.
I would appreciate an opportunity to meet with you and be reached at 12345-6789.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
William Stevens.
